What better way to open the Games tab on Man Fat than with, possibly the most hyped game ever, Modern Warfare 2. After queuing up at my local Sainsburys at 7:00am I purchased this much sought after piece gaming history for the princely sum of 26 English pounds. I then did what all none students with a mortgage did, and went to work.
After what seamed to be the longest working day in history I arrived home I gave the game a whirl. For starters, I really did not like the opening screen. It is 3 boxes that let you chose between Campaign, Multi player and there new scenario stuff. It is functional but looks cheap. So I naturally skipped the uninteresting bits and went straight into multi player. This then felt very familiar as it is set out the same as the previous CoD games. Select the game type you want to play, it searches for games, you join one and select one of the pre determined classes. Wow, was my first thought as I jumped into a team deathmach. The graphics were spectacular.
There was loads going on and the maps looked detailed and well laid out. Game play was smooth and clear and it was not long before I was watching the kill cam of a much better player than me as he drilled me full of holes. This happened allot, and when I say allot I mean of the first hour I was playing the game my kill death ratio was lying somewhere between 3 to 4 deaths for every person I killed. This surprised me as (I don’t want to sound big headed but..) I was pretty damn good at CoD world at War. Odiously the weapons were very different but I thought the game play would have been the same. It isn’t. Now I have played the game for some time and am the heady heights of level 18 I can see how the game has developed. I did just think it had turned into a campers paradise as the majority of kills come from people staying at one window watching one doorway, but I would say it has moved more towards a “special opps” type of experience. Kills come quick if you are sneaky but are fare between if you are “gun-ho”. You need to creep around the map carefully stalking you victims as sprinting around in the hope you find someone sleeping just results in watching lots of kill cams.
The multilayer game types has also been added to with totally new matches like 1 on 1 cage fights and 3rd person view games. This is enough to keep the FPS game exciting and has got me hooked. Hooked so much that I have not even looked at the single player story mode yet! So if you are like me and love FPS shooters, has an xbox with xbox live and has a little to much time on their hands… Look my new gamer tag up on line (MAN FATdotCOM) jump into a game with me and share you opinions on the the latest bloody yet beautiful version of the CoD series.
